Saint-Gobain companies are set to take centre stage at Ecobuild, Europe’s leading sustainable design and construction exhibition which takes place from 2nd – 4th March at Earls Court in London.

Jewson will be exhibiting at Ecobuild for the third year running supported by sister SGBD companies including Pasquill, International Timber, Graham and Minster, whilst Saint-Gobain’s manufacturing companies are sharing a two-storey corporate stand packed with innovative construction solutions. Alongside this Saint-Gobain companies will have a major presence in the Nottingham H.O.U.S.E (Home Optimising the Use of Solar Energy), a full sized zero carbon house which is set to be one of the exhibition’s major attractions.

The sustainable builders merchant

Jewson will be communicating its strengths as ‘the sustainable builder’s merchant’ supported by its specialist SGBD sister brands. Its stand will demonstrate its market leading capability to provide sustainable products, training and service solutions to construction professionals. The aim is to help our customers understand and comply with new and existing environmental regulations and legislation. We’ll also demonstrate our strong record of providing full sustainable product and service solutions, through active product displays and case studies.

Jewson will encourage visitors to the stand to enter the ‘Jewson Green Mastermind 2010’ competition. Visitors will have 2 minutes to answer multiple choice questions focussing on general sustainability within the built environment. In addition there will be a small number of questions which will be concerned with Jewson’s own achievements in reducing waste and its carbon footprint. A leader board will be displayed on the stand listing the highest scores achieved by the contestants. The winners will win an exclusive trip to see the sustainable forestry harvesting and milling process in action. An on-line version of the competition will be available on the Jewson website in the weeks leading up the exhibition.

Jewson, Pasquill and International Timber are also supporting The Zed Factory’s stand. The Zed Factory, who are pioneers in sustainable design, are providing a ‘design while you wait’ consultation service at Ecobuild which will allow developers to come away from the show with an architect’s sketch layout for their potential site, a quantity surveyor’s costed RuralZED housing solution, an estate agent’s valuation of the completed home(s), a business plan providing anticipated profit and RuralZED system specifications and kit costs with materials provided by SGBD companies. Branches will be sent tickets to invite interested customers to the event.

Saint-Gobain solutions

Focusing on delivering a more sustainable future and solutions for more energy efficient buildings, the Saint-Gobain corporate stand focuses on four key sectors – healthcare, education, commercial and residential – showcasing products and technologies from its UK and Ireland manufacturing companies in complete systems for different applications in both new build and refurbishment.

Features include a through-the-wall system and residential refurbishment solutions for both social and private projects, demonstrating how Saint-Gobain and its companies are at the forefront of providing sustainable, highly energy efficient solutions to the construction and housing sector.

Solar Decathlon HOUSE

Located close to the Saint-Gobain stand is the Nottingham H.O.U.S.E – an energy efficient, zero carbon solar powered home designed and built by a team of students from the University of Nottingham’s Department of the Built Environment (DBE). The H.O.U.S.E is the UK’s only entry into the first International Solar Decathlon Europe competition to design and build Europe’s most effective and energy efficient zero carbon solar powered house. Saint-Gobain is the main technical partner and sponsor for the project. The Nottingham H.O.U.S.E has been constructed entirely from materials supplied by Saint-Gobain’s UK companies including Saint-Gobain Isover, British Gypsum, Weber, Saint-Gobain Glass, Solaglas, International Timber, Pasquill and Greenworks, providing total solutions to optimise energy efficiency.

Demonstrating how low energy architecture can lend itself to the mass market, the building’s versatile Lshaped, modular design can be worked into terraces, rows or stacked as apartments. The resulting concept is a highly marketable, zero carbon starter home for a new family – a major requirement in the UK.

There will be over 60 exhibitors attending the show including the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, Scotland Excel and the Glasgow East Regeneration Agency which has been working to develop environmental initiatives and community projects across the eastern quarter of Glasgow.

Aimed at architects, housing associations, contractors, developers, designers and builders, the event will take place between the 14th and 15th May 2009 at the Kerrydale Suite, Celtic Park, the venue for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 opening ceremony.

The show promises to be one of the most dynamic, informative and exciting events of the year for the building industry, encouraging the use of sustainable building solutions. Seminars on environmentally friendly products, sustainability and workflow management will be running across both days.

The Ecobuild exhibition, held at London’s Earl’s Court exhibition centre, is an opportunity to learn more about the world around us all and what we can do to make it the best place possible.

Ecobuild celebrates the best in innovative technology, design and construction that is helping to cut the impact human activities have on our planet. The award ceremony, which will take place on November 21st, looks to celebrate outstanding achievement within the industry and strengthen industry ties.

The judging panel that chose the finalists were wowed by the Greenworks website’s easy-to-use user interfaces and interactive content. Judges enjoyed the interactive eco-friendly house interface on the homepage which enables the user to quickly see how they can make their home more eco friendly with sustainable solutions for generating renewable energy and reducing heat and water waste such as rainwater harvesters and solar panels.

The judging panel were also impressed with the way it enables users to view the full range of products stocked and learn more about the attributes, applications and advantages of each product through user-centric design and in-depth copywriting that is easily digested. Users can quickly learn how a rainwater harvester works or how much energy can be saved using solar panels.

The Greenworks website is built and maintained by award-winning digital new media agency Cyber-Duck and project managed by Greenworks Business Development Director, Alan Penny.

EcoBuild 2008 at Earl’s Court, London, provided Greenworks with a fantastic opportunity to showcase innovative and eco friendly technology to construction industry professionals and environmentally conscious visitors alike.

Pulling in more visitors than ever before in the show’s four-year history, Greenworks was able to give visitors to the stand an overview of how they can reap the benefits, financially and ecologically, from renewable and sustainable energy sources such as solar panels, heat pumps and underfloor heating systems.
